Brain Brew Cafe Purpose
W. Edwards Deming, the American Statistician who revolutionized Japanese manufacturing after World War II – was a stickler for understanding the purpose – of a meeting, a book or a process. In his classic book, Out of The Crises – he started each chapter with a paragraph on the purpose of the chapter. If I’d done that with each of my books – I could have saved a lot of rewrites from my editor.
In memory of Dr. Deming – I outline here in my first post on the New Brain Brew Cafe blog my purpose.
Brain Brew Cafe Purpose: To inspire and educate others on how to think smarter and more creatively. My comments will come from a combination of art and science. Art as in my personal experiences and opinions. Science as in quantitative data on how to statistically, significantly increase odds of success with the creation, communication and commercialization of new ideas.
For many this may mean the world of small business ownership or corporate innovation. However, it’s much more than that. It’s also about ideas for communicating with your teenager. Or, creating and commercializing ideas for your non-profit.
Most importantly, Brain Brew Cafe is about conversations. It’s about readers posting their ideas and insights on how to create, communicate and commercialize ideas. My intent is to take a “light hand” when it comes to moderating comments. As Ben Franklin instructed, with his Junto Club for Mutual Improvement, my bias will be towards the positive and instructive and I’ll leave the negativity to others.

Hello. I live in North Jersey and am trying to find out how I would find up-coming Inventor Trade Shows in Northern New Jersey/NYC area. I Googled the term and nothing came up that was specific. Thank You!
Hey Doug! It looks like you may be testing your comment section. Thought I would help and post one. YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME! Have a GREAT day!
I am a professor in the graduate school of business at Saint Louis University. For my Corporate Entrepreneurship class, I have decided to use “Jump Start Your Business Brain” which I originally purchased back in about 2002. In the back of the book there is an offer to download teaching aids from DougHall.com. That does not seem to exist anymore. I was wondering if I can gain access to the old material or some new material for use this fall. Thank you for any help. I can be emailed at sepner@slu.edu.
Steve, thanks for the interest. We’ve discontinued that in future editions as it’s a bit out of date. That said, we have some old ones still and will get them to you – for you to decide. I’d suggest you look at for the latest FREE workshop for Marketing Physics.
Thanks. We’re just getting started. We should have cool stuff up in the next few weeks. I’ve committed to getting up at least two postings a day.
Look at for details soon. At the bottom of the page you’ll see a link to INNOVATION ROADSHOW for a listing of our public events.
Hello again,
I cannot find the link at the bottom of the page that says “Innovative Roadshow” for public event listings…Please try me one more time and thank you much for your time!!
Sorry I spoke too soon – it’s not public yet – it’s on the development version. I’ll have the folks get it up today – and provide a link from Brain Brew Cafe to it.
